When learning how to wheelie on any bike, it’s important to start with a solid foundation. Spend ample time riding and familiarize yourself with your bike’s characteristics before attempting wheelies. This will help you understand its behavior and gain control.
To initiate a wheelie, ensure you’re well-balanced on the bike, with your hands evenly positioned on both sides of the handlebars. As you begin, keep your right foot firmly planted on the rear brake pedal, as you’ll soon discover that it’s crucial for maintaining control.
Remember, seat time is key. Practice regularly to develop a feel for the bike’s balance and power delivery. Start by lifting the front tire off the ground slightly, like dribbling a basketball before taking a shot. This helps you gradually build confidence and control.
Once you’re comfortable with the basics, it’s time to progress to higher wheelies. As you pull back on the handlebars, maintain a smooth and controlled motion, applying just enough throttle to lift the front wheel off the ground. Focus on keeping your body relaxed and your weight centered to maintain balance.
While learning, always prioritize safety. Wear appropriate protective gear, such as a helmet, gloves, and armored clothing. Find a safe, open area with minimal traffic or obstacles to practice. Remember that mastering wheelies takes time, patience, and practice.
Now, in addition to the tips above, here are a few more pointers to help you with your wheelie journey:
1. Start in 1st-2nd gear: Begin practicing your wheelies in first and second gear, as it offers more torque and control compared to higher gears.
2. Feather the clutch: As you pull back on the handlebars, gently feather the clutch to modulate power delivery and maintain control.
3. Gradually increase throttle: Instead of abruptly opening the throttle, gradually increase the throttle to avoid sudden jerks and maintain a smoother wheelie.
4. Use body positioning: Experiment with shifting your body weight slightly backward during the wheelie to help maintain balance and control.
5. Practice rear brake control: Learn to use the rear brake to bring the front wheel down when necessary. Gradually apply pressure to control the wheelie’s height and duration.
Remember, always prioritize safety!! & be mindful of local laws and regulations🙃👮🏼♂️🚔Happy wheelie practice!!🤘🏽

I believe starting off with a mini is the best and safest way to learn wheelies. This way it’s not so far of a fall. Minis from 50cc to the grom 125cc are the best. There is obviously less power in these bikes. Which helps learning throttle control as well as brake control.
